By Colquhounh Alan, 2002, GBR : Oxford University Press, electronic resource, p 73-86
This text traces Adolf Loos ( 1870-1933) style between 1900-1930, what inspired him; what were his opposition. All though the text is in English, I really enjoyed translating all the Austrian names, style and referencing. From this text Loos was indeed part of the Modern movement but did it in is own way, this text explain very clearly "Loos's ambivalence towards conflicting values of tradition and modernity" (p84); how he consider context.
I just don't think this reading emphasis enough on the context of the era, where people were redefining things. It is mention p73-74 with "What defined the useful object was not its mode of manufacture but its purpose" which I believe were Loos idea; the definition of use and how to play with it. Like in the Rufer House (1922) where windows were randomly placed but answer to Loos rule of interior with distinguish room placed on different floor level but still connected through the view.
Loos introduce an other things that I believe is still true now our days : " Loos addressed the problem of inserting a large commercial building in a historical urban context" (1909) p 76 it could be compare it to Primark building which is a bare concrete been placed near historical facade of market square and the council house in center of Nottingham.
